Kaffir Limes
The light overnight rain has been captured in the leaves of the cabbages, forming beads of water that glisten in the morning sun. The garden is beginning to look bare as the leaves from the fruit trees fall to the ground. The golden marjoram has taken over a section of the garden so I have spent some time digging more than half of it out. The ground beneath the Kaffir limes is a carpet of fruit, some bright green and some turning yellow.  Although they smell so wonderful they are not the most inviting fruit. I suppose maybe if I did not have such a large Tahitian lime that keeps me in lime juice the entire year I may be more resourceful and put the strange wrinkled fruit to good use. I grew the Kaffir limes for the leaves as I use them a lot in Thai food which is on the menu often here, but now I am cutting branches and giving the leaves to friends as they are getting quite large and invading space in the garden. The rosemary plant that has been threatening to die in the pot is now in the ground and a few more weeds have been pulled. The second packed of red flowering broad beans are now planted. That’s it for the day as there is a tapestry on the loom that needs my attention, although I would probably rather stay outside and make the most of the mild weather before it turns to winter.
