The last of the persimmon leaves have fallen to the ground forming a spectacular carpet of colour. As autumn draws to a close the scent of the last quinces fills the house. The light inside is changing, forming longer shadows, the heat of summer now almost forgotten. Today is bitterly cold, the promise of things to come, warm soups, comfort food and days pleasantly spent indoors. The Tahitian lime at the dining room window is taking on a different appearance as this seasons fruits ripen and turn yellow. The Kohl Rabi seedlings from Helga are looking happy while the strawberry leaves are taking on autumn tones. In a few days it will be June and the beginning of winter. The garden slows down and less variety of produce to plant, there is lots of cleaning up to be done, fruit trees pruned and new ones planted. I must try to get as much planted as I can in the next week to make the most of the few warmer days that we will now get.
